Vernon Russell Christenson, age 82, of Winsted, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
Vern was born May 9, 1934, in Rosewood Township, MN, the son of Emil and Myrtle (Johnson) Christenson.
He graduated from Milan High School in 1952.
Vernon was joined in holy marriage with Marsha K. Harms Dec. 12, 1964, in Buffalo Center, IA. God blessed their marriage with four children.
Vern was a hardworking man! He was formerly employed as a manager at the grain elevators in Buffalo, Slayton, and retired from Winsted.
He loved all Minnesota sports, but was an avid Vikings fan. Vern enjoyed building relationships with people, and always loved a good joke.
He was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, and enjoyed helping with St. Paul’s Sandwich Ministry, and Meals on Wheels in Winsted.
Vern is survived by his children, Scott (Susan) Christenson, Beth Bartholomew and special friend Paul Becker, Ranae (Blaine) Eichstadt, and Darrin Christenson and special friend Krista Yoch; grandchildren Scott Christenson Jr., Erik Eichstadt, Jakob Eichstadt, and Paige Christenson; a sister, Lois (Charles) Sahr; sisters-in-law Virginia (Brian) Juhl, and Roxanne (David) Lewandowski; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Myrtle Christenson; wife, Marsha K. Christenson; brother Clint Christenson; sisters Erma Erickson, Clarice Ward, Myrtle Johnson, and a twin sister, Vivian Molden.
A memorial service took place Saturday, March 25 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.
There was visitation Friday, March 24 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the church, continuing Saturday, one hour prior to the services.
