Ruth Deidrick, 92

Ruth (Mrs. Calvin “Kelly”) Deidrick, age 92, of Oster, rural Waverly, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017, at Parkview Care Center in Buffalo.

Her funeral service will take place Friday, Sept. 1 at 3 p.m. at Oster Covenant Church, rural Waverly, with interment at Oster Covenant Cemetery. Pastor Paul Kling and Pastor Robert Ramphal will officiate, pianist will be Judy Plucker; and special music will be provided by Dave and Bev Allen.

There will be visitation at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

Casket bearers will be Matt Deidrick, Jackson Motzko, Sam Johnson, Glenn Fredeen, Thom Murray, and Steve Strandquist.

Ruth was born April 7, 1925, at home in Oster, the daughter of David and Esther (Eklund) Strandquist.

She attended Lake Ida School from one through eighth grades, and graduated from Watertown High School in 1942.

In her later high school years, Ruth worked at the Winsted Canning Factory, where she met her future husband. She later became the secretary at Watertown High School.

Ruth and Calvin H. Deidrick were joined in holy marriage Nov. 28, 1946, at the Oster Covenant Church in Oster, rural Waverly. God blessed their marriage with two children.

Ruth and Calvin engaged in dairy farming in Woodland Township, Wright County for many years. They bred and showed Calrick Registered Holsteins.

Calvin “Kelly” Deidrick preceded his wife in death Nov. 20, 2008.

Ruth was a faithful, lifelong member of the Oster Covenant Church, where she was baptized, confirmed, and married. She also was the church pianist/organist from the age of 13 until age 92.

Ruth was a former active 4-H Leader and Sunday school secretary. She enjoyed gardening, needlework, and fishing, and loved her grand- and great-grandchildren.

Ruth was proud of her Swedish heritage!

She is survived by her loving children: Jim (Kathy) Deidrick of Waverly, and Cindy (Alan) Johnson of Plymouth; grandchildren Matt (Sonya) Deidrick, Sarah (Jackson) Motzko, Sam Johnson and Rachel Johnson; great-grandchildren Paige, Carter, Grady and Parker Motzko, and Aria Deidrick; and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers Wallace (Audrey) Strandquist, and Willard (Novia) Strandquist.
