Evelyn Grosshuesch, 96

Evelyn Selma Sophia (Muhs) Grosshuesch, age 96, of Watertown, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017, at Elim Home in Watertown.

She was born Oct. 15, 1920, in Watertown, the daughter of Christ and Agnes (Ketcher) Muhs. Evelyn was baptized Nov. 21, 1920, and confirmed her faith March 25, 1934, both at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Watertown. Evelyn’s confirmation verse was Deuteronomy 31:8. “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Evelyn was a graduate of Watertown High School.

She was united in marriage to Carl John Grosshuesch Jan. 28, 1942, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Watertown. This union was blessed with three children: Joan, Elaine and Jim.

A devoted farm wife, Evelyn loved to work alongside her husband. She raised chickens and sold eggs to area residents. For more than 10 years, she worked at the Twin Birch Nursing Home in Spring Park.

Evelyn enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, and embroidery. She always welcomed the opportunity to babysit a grandchild.

A faithful lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, she participated in Bible study, quilting, bake sales, funeral lunch server, choir, cheer committee, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, and volunteered whenever needed.

Evelyn will be remembered for her kind and caring personality, and that she loved family and was willing to help everyone.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; parents Christ and Agnes Muhs; father-in-law and mother-in-law Albert and Clara Grosshuesch; sister and brother-in-law Pearl and Clarence Felt; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Edna and Clarence Wolters, Elsie and Henry Schlechter, Hilda and Art Baltzer, Vernon Grosshuesch, Paul Grosshuesch, Viola and Dr. Clarence Brott, Donald Grosshuesch, Eldon Grosshuesch, Robert and Norma Grosshuesch, Verna and Ray Jergens, and Lydia Grosshuesch.

Evelyn is survived by her loving family: children and spouses Joan and Gary Luchsinger of Watertown, Elaine and Roger Pacyga of Isanti, and Jim and Maggie Grosshuesch of Maple Plain; grandchildren Jerry Murphy (friend Lisa Meredith), Mark Luchsinger, Stacy Luchsinger (friend T.J. Fredricks), Michael Luchsinger, Tim (Becky) Grosshuesch, and Andy (Katrina) Grosshuesch; great-grandchildren Aliah Murphy, Nissa Murphy, Marin Luchsinger, Erin Luchsinger, Elise Luchsinger, Lance Luchsinger, Sydney Luchsinger Klein, Kennedy Hughes, Harrison Hughes, Ellie Luchsinger, Addison Luchsinger, Henry Grosshuesch, Elsie Grosshuesch, and Arianna Grosshuesch; sisters-in-law Lavina Grosshuesch, and Leona Grosshuesch; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Her funeral service took place Sunday, March 26 at 2 p.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Watertown with Rev. Layton Lemke officiating. There was visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment was St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in Watertown.

Evelyn’s grandchildren served as casket bearers.
