Robert B. Heigl Obituary – 7/30/2017

Robert Bernard Heigl, age 88, of Mauston, WI, formerly of Winsted and Lester Prairie, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2017, at Fair View Nursing Home in Mauston, WI.

He was born June 7, 1929, in Minneapolis, to the late Pearl (Meurer) and Bernard (Ben) Heigl.

Robert attended Holy Trinity School in Winsted, St. John’s Preparatory School in Collegeville, and graduated from Howard Lake Public School in Howard Lake.

In his younger years, Bob and his friends raised cain in the Winsted/Howard Lake area; as an example, he had flown an airplane without a license, which he “borrowed” when he was supposed to be in school. Father Wey channeled Bob’s youthful “energy” into Golden Gloves boxing.

Bob worked at Lester’s Incorporated in Lester Prairie as a yard foreman and truck driver for many years. He also owned and operated a grocery store in Welcome, MN; and a motel in Sheldon, IA; as well as renovating older homes for resale in Jackson, MN.

Bob’s passions were woodworking, and enjoying a good steak with friends. His hobbies included hunting, bowling, snowmobiling, motorcycling, playing cards, and collecting watches.

Bob had some ups and downs in life, but essentially, he lived it his way.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Richard, who passed away July 27, 2017.

Bob is survived by four daughters: Jeanette (Jerome) Kegler of Lester Prairie, Joan (Ivan) Prehn of Prairie du Sac, WI, Diane (Ralph) Prehn of Lester Prairie, and Dawn Joy Heigl of Minneapolis; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He is further survived by a sister-in-law, Carol Heigl of Youngsville, NC; nieces; nephews; cousins; and a very special friend, Harriet Fortun.

Final arrangements were handled by Roseberry’s Funeral Home & Crematory in Wisconsin, with a private interment at a later date.
