Cletus Huhn Obituary – 7/18/2017


Cletus Anthony Huhn, age 90, of Darwin, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at the Dassel Lakeside Nursing Home.

He was born July 27, 1926, in Browerville, the son of Joe and Lucia (Seppi) Huhn. Cletus was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth. He received his education in Hutchinson.

Cletus entered active military service in the United States Army Oct. 23, 1950, at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. He served his country during the Korean War, and during his years of service, Cletus received a Korean service medal with four bronze campaign stars, Combat Infantry Badge, and UN Service Medal. He received an Honorable Discharge July 23, 1952, at Camp Roberts, CA, and had achieved the rank of sergeant.

Upon his return from Korea, Cletus began employment with an auto glass company in Illinois. Little did he know that he would fall in love with Doris Shirley, a co-worker’s daughter and that she would be his future bride.

Cletus was united in marriage to Doris Shirley in Oglesby, IL. This marriage was blessed with five sons, Kevin, Larry, Cletus Jr., Doug, and Mark.

Cletus and Doris resided and raised their boys on their family farm in Darwin. They shared 47 years of marriage together until Doris passed away Oct. 30, 2002.

Cletus was a farmer his entire life. He retired from farming in 1992.

He was a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church in Darwin since 1960; as well as a member of the Litchfield American Legion Post 104, and the Litchfield VFW Post 2828.

Cletus loved farming. He raised beef cattle, dairy cows, and grew various types of crops.

He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, and friends.

When Cletus needed assistance with his daily care, he became a resident of the Dassel Lakeside Nursing Home Jan. 13 of this year.

He is survived by his children: Kevin Huhn (Wendy) of Dayton, Larry Huhn (Karen) of Darwin, Cletus Huhn Jr. (Lynda) of Buffalo, Doug Huhn (Nancy) of Darwin, and Mark Huhn (Michelle) of Buffalo; nine grandchildren: Autum, Amy, Benjamin, Michael, Joseph, Brent, Justin, Jeff, and Abigail; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Cletus is further survived by siblings, Lawrence “Bud” Huhn (Diane) of Illinois, Lucy Lorence of Glencoe, Dorothy Bandis of Silver Lake, and Loraine (Phillip “Jr.”) Curatlo of Illinois; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lucia Huhn; sister, Rosie Remer; and brothers, Joe Huhn, Kenneth Huhn, Leo Huhn, Raymond Huhn.
