Donna Jean Kern, age 49, of Silver Lake, formerly of Lester Prairie, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services.
She was born May 9, 1967, in Glencoe, the daughter of Martin and Leone (Jaster) Kern. Donna was baptized as an infant May 28, 1967, and was confirmed in her faith as a youth May 2, 1982, both by the Rev. Harold A. Bode at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.
Donna received her education in Lester Prairie, graduating from Lester Prairie High School with the class of 1985.
Donna was united in marriage to Steven Vanderlinde Aug. 26, 1989, by the Rev. Steven Vaudt at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. The couple made their home in St. Bonifacius, and shared three years of marriage until Steven passed away Nov. 22, 1992.
Donna worked in Shakopee for a time, and then bought a motel and RV park in Nevis, working there for eight years before selling it, and buying her dream home by Nevis.
She worked in housekeeping at CHI St. Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids, and enjoyed cleaning the surgery, and radiology departments, and mopping the hospital kitchen and cafeteria.
On her days off, Donna enjoyed cleaning homes for ladies she became friends with. She also enjoyed gardening and landscaping. Her children were her beloved dogs.
Donna cherished the time spent with her friends and family.
She is survived by her brothers, Clifford Kern and his wife, Barb, David Kern and his wife, Brenda, Earl Kern and his wife, Elmira, all of Lester Prairie, and Roger Kern of Silver Lake; nieces and nephews, Jeremiah (Lynne) Kern, Sally (Chris) Homuth, Ryan (Patti) Kern, Joshua (fiancée, Kayla) Kern, John (Jacky) Kern, and Angela (Pat) Lorentz; great nieces and nephews, Bryana, Ethan, Jared, Jayden, Austin, Alexis, Reese, Finley, Rowan, Henry, Charlie, William, Wyatt and Benjamin; other relatives; and many friends.
In addition to her husband, Steven Vanderlinde, Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Leone Kern; and a sister, Louise Kern; as well as aunts and uncles.
Funeral services took place Tuesday, April 4 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, followed by interment at the church cemetery. The Rev. Travis Loeslie officiated at the service, and the organist was Nancy Buckentine. Soloist Chuck Thiel performed “Amazing Grace,” “One Day At A Time,” and “Just A Closer Walk With Thee.” Congregational hymns were “How Great Thou Art” and “Rock Of Ages.”
Donna’s nieces and nephews were her casket bearers: Ryan Kern, Jeremiah Kern, John Kern, Joshua Kern, Sally Homuth, and Angela Lorentz
