Duane A. Konerza, 83

Duane A. Konerza, age 83, of Loveland, CO, made his journey from this earth to heaven and into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus, Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017.

He was born and raised on the family farm in Rich Township (near Silver Lake, MN), the son of Arthur Joseph and Lydia Mae (Kazar) Konerza.

Duane joined the Navy amid the Korean War, serving honorably from June 1953-57. Stationed in Virginia, on his last leave before being discharged from the Navy, he rode his newly purchased “hog,” a ‘54 Harley-Davidson 74FL “Panhead,” all the way home to Minnesota. (He was a member of the American Motorcycle Association, from which he received a 25,000 mile pin.)

While on this final leave, a young lady working at the local roller rink asked this young sailor for a ride on his Harley, and the rest, they say, is history. Duane married Arlene (Zak) Nov. 22, 1957. Just two weeks before his passing, family and friends gathered for celebrations honoring their 60th wedding anniversary.

Shortly after their marriage, the couple settled in Lester Prairie. Duane and his father-in-law, Hank, built the family home from the ground up.

Duane worked at Lester’s Engineered Building Systems as a millwright; retiring from there after 39 years of service.

Duane and Arlene moved to Loveland, CO in 2002, to be closer to their daughters.

Duane was a lover of his family. He constantly had a project going, as he enjoyed fixing and building things. He enjoyed music (especially midwest polkas and country-western), and he seemed to always have a joke to tell.

Most of all, Duane loved his Lord, Jesus. There was no obstacle in life that he was not able to overcome through his faith in Jesus.

Duane’s family will remember him as a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa; and a person who loved the Lord. In Duane’s own words, he was “one of the reasons God made wood.” He was a grandpa who could fix almost anything, and he lived a life of thanksgiving and ever-growing faith.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Lydia Konerza; and brother-in-law Donald V. Casey.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Arlene Konerza of Loveland, CO; daughters Lori (James) Goebel of Loveland, CO; and Kay (Garrett) Bachert of Lorena, TX; a sister, Arlene Casey of Rosemount; brother, Gene (Karen) Konerza of Glencoe; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nephews; nieces; and friends.

A Celebration of Life service took place Wednesday, Dec. 8 at Tranquility House of the Mirasol Green Homes in Loveland, CO.

Memorials may be made through Faith NOW Ministries, PO Box 28, Loveland CO 80539.
