Erma L. Kubasch, 98

Erma L. Kubasch, age 98, of New Germany, passed away Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at the Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.

She was born Oct. 12, 1918, in Hollywood Township, Mayer (Carver County), the daughter of Gustav and Maria (Gongoll) Hoeft.

Erma was baptized into the Triune of God Nov. 17, 1918, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer by the Rev. Erthal; and confirmed May 20, 1932, at the same church by Rev. Erthal.

Erma was united in marriage to Edmund A. Kubasch June 2, 1938, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer, by the Rev. Schwandt.

Erma was an avid Sheephead player, and anytime friends and family came over for cards, lunch and egg coffee were in order. She made the best cut out cookies; they were a hit with anyone who tried them.

Erma liked to garden and take care of the chickens. She was always happy to gather eggs from her money makers, and so were the kids, because that meant they got their allowances.

Erma was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund Kubasch; parents Gustav and Maria Hoeft; daughter-in-law Arla Mae Kubasch; great-granddaughter Emily Rose Bacon; brothers and sisters-in-law William and Frieda Hoeft, Martin and Marjorie Hoeft; and sister and brother-in-law Vera and Marvin Stuewe.

She is survived by her loving family: sons Jim Kubasch of New Germany, and Rollin (Carol) Kubasch of Hutchinson; daughter Gail Bakeberg and special friend Scott Berning of Maple Lake; and grandchildren Gary (Lori) Kubasch, Travis (Lisa) Kubasch, Jason (Marlene) Kubasch, Robbie (Missy) Bakeberg, Randy (Missy) Bakeberg, Jennifer (David) Cacka, and Susan Kubasch.

Erma is further survived by great-grandchildren Nick Kubasch, Chad (Tiffany) Kubasch, Sawyer Kubasch, Jordyn Kubasch, Brianna Cacka and special friend Nicholas Gardener, Brent Cacka, Brittney Cacka, Brice Cacka, Ryan Bacon, Lucas Bacon, William Renneberg, Matthew Renneberg, Cooper Bakeberg, Ava Bakeberg, Carter Bakeberg, Addie Bakeberg; great-great-grandson Nicholas Gardener Jr.; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Her funeral service took place Friday, March 3 at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Hollywood Township, New Germany with the Rev. Dean Mahlum officiating. There was visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment was at St. John Lutheran Cemetery.

Erma’s grandchildren were her casket bearers.
