Dorothy E. LaMott Obituary – 3/20/2017


Dorothy Emma LaMott, age 88, of Silver Lake, passed away Monday, March 20, 2017, at Cedar Crest in Silver Lake.

She was born Oct. 9, 1928, in Lester Prairie, the daughter of Ewald and Augusta (Klaustermeier) Benkowski.

Dorothy was baptized Oct. 28, 1928, instructed in the Lutheran Catechism, and confirmed in the Christian faith March 29, 1942, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.

Dorothy and Edwin W. LaMott were married Aug. 18, 1948, in Silver Lake. God blessed their marriage with four children.

Dorothy was a faithful member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted.

She and Edwin engaged in farming in Winsted Township for many years.

Dorothy was a member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans (DAV) auxiliaries.

She enjoyed baking, especially making angel food cakes; keeping the lawn cut and neat, gardening, and working with flowers. She was an excellent housekeeper, and was the love of her husband’s life!

Dorothy also loved spending time with her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed keeping everyone fed.

She is survived by her loving husband, Edwin LaMott; children Roxi Chrast of Silver Lake, Nancy (Kevin) Trnka of Lakewood, CO, Connie (Vern) Thiemann of Winsted, and Bruce (Carrie) LaMott of Silver Lake; 10 grandchildren: Jeff (Cassie) Chrast, Jason (Jen) Chrast, and Derrick and Devin Chrast; Angie Trnka and Blake Trnka (Amber); Brandon (Jill) Thiemann and Aaron (Kelsey) Thiemann; and Brady (Sarah) LaMott and Tyler (Jessica) LaMott; seven great-grandchildren Lucas Chrast; Treston and Colten Chrast; Riley and Camden LaMott, McKenna Thiemann, Theo Thiemann, and three more great-grandchildren on the way; sisters Vera Fruetel of Winsted, and Lillian Dammann of Lester Prairie; sisters-in-law Zoa Fasching, Delores Fiecke, and Annette LaMott; brother-in-law Orlin Graupmann of Plato; and many other relatives and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Ewald and Augusta Benkowski, and August Kruschke; a sister, Ella Graupmann; a son-in-law, Loren Chrast; and by two infant brothers.

Funeral services took place Saturday, March 25 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Hormann officiating. Bruce Gatz was the vocalist, and Sheryl Menden was the organist. Interment was at Holy Family Cemetery in Silver Lake.

There was visitation Friday, March 24 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., and continued Saturday at the church, one hour prior to the services.

Dorothy’s grandchildren were her casket bearers: Jeff, Jason, Derrick and Devin Chrast, Angie and Blake Trnka, Brandon and Aaron Thiemann, and Brady and Tyler LaMott.
