Harold Latzig, age 87, of Lester Prairie, passed away Monday, March 13, 2017, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
He was born March 28, 1929, in Camden Township, the son of Paul and Margaret (Koehler) Latzig. Harold was baptized April 21, 1929, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany by the Rev. Rolf, and confirmed on April 18, 1943 by the same.
He served in the United States Army from 1949-1952, during the time of the Korean War, and was a lifetime member of the New Germany America Legion Post 601.
Harold was united in marriage to Marie Kopecky Oct.. 14, 1955, at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Watertown by the Rev. Kramer.
Harold farmed for a short time in his life, hauled milk, and worked at Green Giant for 20 years as a mechanic.
Some of the activities he enjoyed were playing cards, listening to old tyme music, quilting, and watching westerns.
Harold was a loyal lifetime member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany, where he served as church elder, trustee, and usher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Margaret Latzig; stepmother Selma Latzig; son Gary Latzig; brothers and sisters Martha Ziermann, Elmer Latzig, Roy Latzig, and Marcella Gebhardt; brothers-in-law Leland Schwartz, Orlando Gebhardt, Hilbert Ziermann, and Alvin Kopecky; sister-in-law Ellen Latzig; and father-in-law and mother-in-law Frank and Viola Kopecky.
Harold is survived by his loving family: wife Marie; daughter Margaret Buck of California; sons Linus Latzig and special friend Lori Goebel and her son Erik of New Germany; and Lyle Latzig and friend James Stanley of Brooklyn Center; grandchildren Chris and Adam Buck, and Lindsey and Josh Latzig; sister Hildegard Schwartz of Mayer; brothers and sisters-in-law Martin and Ruth Ann Latzig of Howard Lake, Roland and Carol Latzig of Norwood Young America, and Lowell and Darlene Latzig of New Germany; Leona Latzig of Waconia; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Sandy Kopecky of Lino Lakes, Harold Kopecky and friend Ann of Minneapolis, and Donald and Rose Kopecky of Lake Havasu, AZ; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
His funeral service took place Saturday, March 18 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany, with the Rev. Allan Holthus officiating. Interment followed at St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery in New Germany.
There was visitation at the church Friday, March 17 from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.; and continuing Saturday, hour prior to the service.
Casket bearers were Jeff Schwartz, Laurie Larsen, Debra Vinkemeier, Joanne Sauter, Harvey Ziermann, Kenneth Schwartz, Jon Latzig, and Brad Gebhardt.
Elroy Latzig and Keith Ziermann were honorary casket bearers.
Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia.
