Judith “Judy” Florentine Laxen, age 72, of California, formerly of Winsted, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2017, from complications following surgery.
A Mass and burial service will take place Friday, Sept. 1 at 5 p.m. at Holy Trinity Church in Winsted, with visitation one hour prior to Mass at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John Of God Church, or the charity of your choice.

Judith was born July 21, 1945. Shortly after her birth, she was adopted by John (Chuck) and Sophia (Artmann) Laxen, baptized at Holy Trinity Church, and given the name Judith Florentine.
Judy attended Holy Trinity grade and high school. After graduating, she moved to Minneapolis, where she took classes in bookkeeping, and thus began a long career in that field.
In her early 20s, Judy moved to San Francisco, CA packing what she needed in a car and driving cross country. During the ensuing years, she worked for several companies, including Matson Shipping Lines; Peat Marwick and Mitchell; the Pacific Plaza Hotel; and a private entrepreneur.
Judy was very active in her parish, St. John of God, in San Francisco. For over 20 years, she, along with her sister, Janice, served coffee and bagels after Sunday Mass each week. She also served on the parish council, and was the parish bookkeeper and payroll director until her death.
Judy was passionate about environmental issues, participated with numerous volunteer groups, especially those serving the poor and hungry, and was active in an interdenominational meditation group.
She is survived by two sisters, Mary Ann Laxen, and Janice Mortenson; one brother, John (Jack) Laxen, Jr.; three nieces; four great-nephews; one great-great-great niece; and one great-great-great-nephew.
Judy was preceded in death are her parents; three brothers, (Roderick, Ronald and Donald); and one nephew (John).
