Myrtle L. Lenz, 101

Myrtle Lydia Lenz, age 101, of Mayer, passed away Monday, June 12, 2017, at Auburn Home in Waconia.

She was born Dec. 23, 1915, in Bongards, the daughter of Peter H. and Lydia (Peschken) Nellen.

Myrtle was baptized Jan. 30, 1916, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Bongards by Rev. Rosenau. She later confirmed her faith at St. John’s in Bongards May 19, 1929, with Rev. Berkenkamp as officiant.

Myrtle graduated from the Central High School.

She was united in marriage with Stanford S. Lenz Aug. 10, 1932, at St. John’s in Bongards, with Rev. Berkenkamp as officiant.

Myrtle and Stanford made their home on the family farm in Bongards until 1937, when they moved to Mayer. They operated the Barber Shop and the Lenz Confectionary in Mayer. Myrtle had also worked during the corn pack season for Green Giant.

A faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer, Myrtle had participated in the Ladies Aid, Bible study groups, and quilting groups. She also attended the activities of the Mayer Senior Citizens.

Myrtle enjoyed gardening, canning, reading, embroidery, and sewing. She made many quilts over the years that her family cherishes. Her grandchildren always looked forward to her pickles, kuchen, and chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting.

Myrtle will be remembered for her loving, strong, and outgoing personality.

She was preceded in death by her parents, PH and Lydia Nellen; husband Stanford Lenz; son Robert Lenz; daughter Marjorie Peter; son-in-law John Bailey; great-grandchildren Spencer Schindler and Eric Heimerdinger; brother and sister-in-law Orville and Midge Nellen; sister and brother-in-law Rosella and Albert Stender; father-in-law and mother-in-law Henry and Edith Lenz; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Russell and Alice Lenz, and Clarence and Audrey Schultz.

Myrtle is survived by her loving family: children Shirley Bailey of Sun Prairie, WI, Doug (Delores) Lenz, Peter (Susan) Lenz, all of Waconia, and Judy (Florian) Schindler of Norwood Young America; son-in-law Ken Peter of Watertown; grandchildren Mike Bailey, Terese Bailey, Pat Bailey, Maureen (Jerry) Heimerdinger, Carmen (John) Warren, Dorri (Kelly) Plumber, Jay Lenz, Terri Lind, Cheryl (Jim) Ellstrom, Brad (Nicole) Peter, Jill (Dave) Wasser, Tamara (Jeff) Ekstrom, Troy (LeAnn) Lenz, Clayton Schindler, Clark Schindler, and Nathaniel Schindler; 28 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Leona Schultz of Winsted; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service took place Saturday, June 17 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer with the Rev. Adam Gless officiating. There was visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Interment was in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Mayer.

Myrtle’s grandchildren served as her casket bearers.
