Carol Ann Pettit (“Ma”, “Sister Francis,” “Sister Carol”) age 84, of Loretto, passed away Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017.
Carol belonged to The Saint Paul’s Monastery, and was a first grade teacher for many years. She taught hundreds of children in Hastings, Loretto, Minneapolis, and Buffalo.
Carol’s favorite way to spend the day was simply hanging out with her grandchildren. She also passed the time by watching “The Price is Right” and “Wheel of Fortune.” You could find Carol’s contagious smile and laugh at the local establishments playing bingo or meat raffle.
She is survived by her loving husband, Andrew “Andy” Pettit Jr.; son Craig (Amanda) Pettit; grandchildren Colin, Gavin and Alaina; siblings Jeanne Webber, Eleanor Ghostly, Nick Oeffling, Helen (Paul) Klapprich, Catherine (Frank) Meister, and Judy (Tom) Arens; Andy’s children: Nancy (Gary) Hovel, Sue (Dan) Franklin, Carrie (Russ) Oldenborg, and Jon (Sandy) Pettit, daughter-in-law Kathy Pettit; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Angela Oeffling; siblings Wayne Goodman, Bette Carstedt, Joe Goodman, and Jim Oeffling; and Andy’s sons, Ronald Pettit and Jeffrey Pettit.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Saturday, Feb. 18 at 10 a.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Hamel with Father Corey Belden as the celebrant. Craig B. Pettit was the urn bearer.
There was visitation two hours prior to Mass at the church.
