Jay F. Rasset, age 92, of Montrose, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 29, 2017, surrounded by his family.
He was born Jan. 19, 1925, in Minneapolis, to Cletus and Gladys (Pettis) Rasset.
Jay had a deep spiritual faith. He was a life-long member of St. Mary of Czestochowa Catholic Church in rural Delano.
Jay was united in marriage to Marie Schmidt Feb. 23, 1946, at St. Mary’s.
He was a life-long farmer in the Montrose area, and also drove school bus for the Montrose-Buffalo School District for over 25 years.
Jay served during World War II in the Merchant Marines.
He was an avid storyteller, and liked to be around people.
Jay was preceded in death by a son, Dennis; grandson Luke; infant granddaughter Anita Hausladen; son-in-law Paul Lukach; his parents; and siblings Floyd (Florence), Marie (Clarence) Moss, Dale, and Hazel.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Marie; children Dianna (Jim) Hausladen, Mike (Janice), Stephen (Patricia), Teresa Lukach, John (Melanie), Joe (Kathy), and Patrick (Rita); 27 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Jo Ann (Doug) Ouverson; and a sister-in-law, Sandy Rasset.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Saturday, April 1, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of Czestochowa Catholic Church in rural Delano, followed by interment in the church cemetery.
There was visitation at the church Friday, March 31 from 4 to 8 p.m., with a 3:30 p.m. rosary service; and visitation continued Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the Mass.
Arrangements were with the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
