Elizabeth L. “Bette” Reinert, age 84, formerly of Waverly, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017, at Elim Home of Watertown.
She was born July 27, 1932, in Winsted, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Haekenkamp) Stifter.
Bette graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Waverly in 1950.
She was joined in holy matrimony with John V. “Jack” Reinert April 10, 1951. God blessed their marriage with six children.
Bette loved her grandchildren! She also enjoyed gardening, visiting the sick and elderly, swimming, and walking.
She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly, where she served as a Eucharistic minister, was involved with Bible study groups, and taught religious education classes.
Bette is survived by six children: Ken (Wanda) Reinert, Michael (Patricia) Reinert, Joan (John) Sandquist, George (Patty) Reinert, Greg “Bean” (Linda) Reinert, and Susan (Christian) Krug; 20 grandchildren: Nathan and Phillip Schmidt; Nicole Martin, Megan Hughes, Blake Schaaf, Katie and Thom Reinert; Drew and Ryan Sandquist; Sara Varner, Chris Reinert, Jill Zimmerman, Elizabeth Reinert and Abby Borer; Eric, Holly, Joe and Lily Reinert; and Nicole and Tyler Krug; and 18 great-grandchildren: Ben and Samantha Schmidt, Emma and Sydney Martin, Lydia and Charlie Hughes, Sterling Peterson, Audrey Schaaf, Layla, Lucille, and Pearl Sandquist; John and Elizabeth “Rose” Varner, Ruby, Hadley, and Brooks Reinert; and Lauren and Maxwell Zimmerman.
She is further survived by siblings Sally Pususta, and Cletus and Arnold Stifter; other relatives, and many friends.
Bette was preceded in death by her husband, John V. “Jack” Reinert; a daughter-in-law, Deb Reinert; her parents, Joseph and Mary Stifter; and by sisters Mildred, Loretta, Lonnie, and Jean.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Thursday, March 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly, with Father Kenneth O’Hotto as the celebrant. There was private interment St. Mary’s Cemetery in Waverly.
Visitation was Wednesday, March 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Waverly, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.; and continued Thursday, one hour prior to the Mass.
Casket bearers were Bette’s grandsons: Nathan Schmidt, Phillip Schmidt, Thom Reinert, Drew Sandquist, Ryan Sandquist, Chris Reinert, Eric Reinert, and Joe Reinert.
