Mary Ann Smith, age 78, of Atwater, formerly of the Minneapolis and Hopkins/Minnetonka areas, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017.
She was born June 26, 1938, in Minneapolis, the only child of Edward and Margaret (DeFoe) Tait.
Mary Ann graduated from St. Margaret’s Academy in Minneapolis. She then attended the College of St. Theresa in Winona.
Mary Ann was united in marriage to Clayton Smith Oct. 11, 1958, at St. Albert the Great Church in Minneapolis.
Over the years, Mary Ann volunteered for many organizations. She enjoyed scrapbooking, genealogy, traveling, and above all, spending time with her family.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Clayton; six children: Daniel (Sue), Michael (Diann), Lorna (Michael) Dobihal, Pamela (James) Schrankler, Amy Nesgoda, and Steve (Michelle); 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial took place Wednesday, May 17 at 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Mary in Waverly, with a gathering of family and friends from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the St. Mary Parish Center, prior to the Mass.
Arrangements were with the Iten Funeral Home of Delano.
