Laura Jeanne Spike, age 97, of Montrose, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017.
She was born May 20, 1919, the daughter of Charles and Emily (Elsenpeter) Marquette.
Laura was baptized in June 1919, by Father Joseph Heinz at St. Francis Catholic Church in Buffalo.
Laura and Harold Spike were united in marriage May 3, 1940, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Buffalo.
Laura enjoyed gardening, flowers, baking, especially baking bread; sewing, puzzles, and spending time with her family and grandchildren. She had a great sense of humor and made sure no one ever left her home hungry.
A very devout Catholic, Laura belonged to several parishes and Bible studies throughout Wright County. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and donated to many charities.
Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; son Paul; daughter Michelle; grandchildren Nicholas, Nathan, Vickey, and Zackary; and sons-in-law Lee Fehn and Steve Proctor.
She is survived by her children, Myron (Clarice) Spike, Myrna Hell, Irene Fehn, Judy (Kenneth) Kalway, Jerome (Kathy) Spike, David (Mary) Spike, Jeanne (Dan) Boeson, Emily Heins, Mary (Robert) Nowak, Ramona Proctor, and Wanda (Steve) Tussing; daughter-in-law Barb Spike; 54 grandchildren; 88 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Monday, March 27 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael, with Father Thomas McCabe as the celebrant. Interment was at St. Michael Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Dustin Tussing, Myron Lee Spike, Jeremy Boeson, Jess Nowak, Matt Spike, Jeff Fehn, Lenny Kalway, and Wade Heins.
There was visitation Sunday, March 26 from 2 to 3:30 p.m., with a rosary recited at 3:30 p.m., at the Peterson Chapel in St. Michael; and continued Monday morning, one hour prior to Mass at the church.
