Rosemary ‘Rose’ Thiel Obituary – 1/5/2017


Rosemary “Rose” (Ruzicka) Thiel, age 89, resident of Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe, and formerly of Lester Prairie, passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.

She was born Oct. 4, 1927, in Rich Valley Township, MN, the daughter of Emil and Theresa (Juncewski) Ruzicka. Rose was baptized as an infant in 1927, at St. Adelbert Catholic Church; and in 1942, was confirmed in her Catholic faith at St. George Catholic Church.

She received her education at a county school through the eighth grade.

Rosemary was united in marriage to Wilfred Thiel Oct. 4, 1949, by the Rev. Streufert at First Evangelical Lutheran Church parsonage in Glencoe. Rose and Wilfred lived in Lester Prairie, and their marriage was blessed with one son, Raymond. The couple shared over 57 years of marriage, until Wilfred passed away Dec. 27, 2006.

In addition to being a loving wife, mother, and homemaker, Rose helped Wilfred on the farm.

She confessed the faith as a member of the Lutheran church Feb. 19, 1950, and was a member at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.

Rose enjoyed dancing, the activities, and watching the birds in the atrium at Long Term Care. She also cherished time spent with family and friends.

Rosemary is survived by her nieces, Doris Westphal and her husband, Arlen, of Montrose, and Theresa Harens of Hutchinson; as well as other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Wilfred, she was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Theresa Ruzicka; two infant sons; an infant daughter; her son, Raymond Thiel and his wife, Sue; father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Emma Thiel; sisters, Lillian Tonn and her husband, Hilton, and Sophie Harens and her husband, Leo; and brothers, Ernst Ruzicka and his wife, Jeanette, and Leo Ruzicka.

Prayer services took place Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 6:30 p.m., at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie. The Rev. Travis Loeslie officiated at the services. Congregational hymns were “Amazing Grace” and “Old Rugged Cross.” Interment was Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in Lester Prairie.
