Darlene L. Burandt Obituary – 12/19/2018


Darlene Lydia Burandt, age 84, of Waconia, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018, in her home, surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will take place Friday, Dec. 28 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia, with Pastor Robert Alsleben officiating. There will be visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Interment will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Waconia.

In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Ridgeview Hospice.

Darlene was born on March 28, 1934 in Benton Township, Carver County. She was the daughter of Albert and Rosella (Nellen) Stender. Darlene was baptized as an infant at Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Young America, Minnesota. She was confirmed on March 30, 1947 at Saint John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church in Bongards, Minnesota by Reverend E. I. Opperman. She received her education at District 58 and graduated from Central High School in 1951.

On September 5, 1953, Darlene was united in marriage to LeRoy Theodore Burandt at Saint John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church in Bongards, Minnesota with Reverend E. F. Menger officiating. This marriage was blessed with four children; Christine Marie, Mark John, Paul Albert and David LeRoy.

The couple made their home in Waconia, and shared 45 years of marriage before LeRoy passed away in 1998.

Darlene started working at Wendorf Implement at the age of 13. After marriage, she worked at the ASC Office in Waconia, and then cleaned houses for 30 years.

Darlene was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church all of her adult life, and a member of the Altar Guild and Esther Circle for many years.

After moving to Westview Acres, she was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed many outings with the other ladies. She became an avid reader in the last years of her life, and especially enjoyed reading mysteries and stories set in Minnesota. She also loved going to plays at the Old Log Theater, Chanhassen Dinner Theater, and community theater groups.

Darlene loved to travel, and she and LeRoy had many travel adventures. Spending time with her family gave Darlene great joy.

In addition to her husband, LeRoy, Darlene was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Christine Marie; parents Albert and Rosella Stender; mother- and father-in-law, John and Ella Burandt; sister LaVonne Koepp; sister-in-laws Ardis Burandt and Delores Burandt; and brother-in-law Donald Wruck.

Darlene is survived by three children, Mark (Anne Cole) of Monticello, Paul (Debbie) of Dassel, and David (LuAnn) of Chanhassen; four grandchildren: Teresa (Jeremiah) Hill, Nicholas (Jenna) Burandt, Lesley Burandt, and Anthony Burandt; and six great-grandchildren: Tiziana, Lillian and Calvin Hill, and Ayla, Brynn, and Kaiya Burandt.

She is further survived by a sister, Carolee Wruck of Shakopee; brother Jon (Roxanne) Stender of Apple Valley; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Wesley Koepp of Belle Plaine, Merlin Burandt of Waconia, Earl Burandt of Maple Grove, Milo and Lyla Burandt of Waconia, and Jim and Joanne Johnson of Chaska; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.
