Melvin C. Gilmer, 85

Melvin Carl Gilmer, age 85, of Cokato and Arizona, passed away April 19, 2018, in Oro Valley, AZ, his winter residence.

Memorial services will take place Wednesday, July 25 at 11 a.m. at 1st Lutheran Church, 107 2nd St. SE, Aitkin; with Pastor Jordan Gades officiating. There will be visitation at 10 a.m. at the church, prior to the service. Military honors will follow the service.

Memorials in Melvin’s memory may be made to 1st Lutheran Church, for Lutheran World Relief or 1st Lutheran Food Shelf.

Melvin was born Jan. 21, 1933, in Cokato, to Milo and Mildred (Rundquist) Gilmer. He was confirmed at Cokato Lutheran Church, and graduated from Cokato High School in 1950.

He then attended Gustavus Adolphus and Macalester colleges, attaining a business administration degree.

After two years in the US Army, Melvin married Marion Hedberg in Aitkin, in 1956.

Melvin’s 32-year business career was with the Glidden Paint Company, at various locations.

His retirement was spent at Cedar Lake, near Aitkin, and at Serpent Lake in Deerwood; with winters in Arizona.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Marion; son Mark (Sharon); daughter Karen (Rick Hilton); four granchildren and their partners; one great-granddaughter; a brother-in-law; three sisters-in-law; nephews; nieces; and cousins.
