Joanne Johnson, 77

Joanne Beryl (Rasmussen) Johnson, age 77, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Delano, passed away peacefully Friday, March 23, 2018, after a difficult battle with Alzheimer’s.

There will be visitation Friday, April 6, beginning at 1 p.m. at Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m., with Pastor Marva Jean Hutchison officiating.

Joanne was born in 1940, in Goldfield, IA, to Raymond and Edna Rasmussen. Her kind soul and playful spirit will be greatly missed.

A loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and grandmother, Joanne enjoyed being in nature and was an avid gardener.

She had a love and appreciation for music. Playing in two harmonica bands, Joanne found joy in the universal ability of music to lift people’s spirits.

Her infectious sense of adventure often found her and those around her exploring new places, meeting new people, listening to live music, and dancing whenever possible.

Joanne grew up in East St. Paul, and married Richard Johnson May 16, 1962. They had four children, whom they raised in Delano.

They had a retirement home built on Turtle Lake, which family and friends enjoyed; and in 2012, they moved to Grand Rapids.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Edna Rasmussen; and a brother, Richard.

She is survived by her loving husband, Richard; sons Mark and Allen; daughters Jeanine and Janell; a sister, Phyllis (Glen) Roach; grandsons Nick and Josh; and many nieces and nephews.
