Carol A. Klaustermeier, 75

Carol Alberta (Jessen) Klaustermeier, age 75, of Lester Prairie, passed away peacefully Monday, April 30, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Society in Howard Lake.

Funeral services will take place Monday, May 7 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, with interment following at the church cemetery. The Rev. Eric Nelson will officiate at the services. Lynn Mueller will be the organist. Congregational hymns will include “In The Garden,” “Amazing Grace,” and “How Great Thou Art.”

There will be visitation Sunday, May 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Monday at the church, one hour prior to the services.

Casket bearers will be Spencer Anderson, Graham Anderson, Kate Klaustermeier, Nick Klaustermeier, Liam Meyer, and James Klaustermeier.

Paige Anderson, and Amelia Meyer will be honorary casket bearers.

Carol was born Oct. 26, 1942, in Luverne, the daughter of Albert and Erna (Bartels) Jessen. She was baptized as an infant Nov. 15, 1942, by the Rev. A. G. Schultz at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Trosky, MN; and was confirmed in her faith as a youth May 20, 1956, by the Rev. G. J. Gerike at Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick, MN.

Carol received her education in Luverne, graduating with the Luverne High School class of 1960. She furthered her education by attending Concordia College in St. Paul, receiving an associate of arts degree in teaching.

Carol came to Lester Prairie to teach in the one-room schoolhouse at St. Peter Lutheran Church, teaching there until a tornado devastated the church and school in May of 1965.

Carol was united in marriage to Carl Arnold Klaustermeier Aug. 29, 1965, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick. The couple made their home on the Klaustermeier family farm in Lester Prairie.

Their marriage was blessed with three children, Mary, David and Amy. Carl and Carol shared over 50 years of marriage until Carl passed away May 29, 2016.

Carol was a prayerful person, who was dedicated to her husband, Carl, and was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. For many years, Carol enjoyed tending to a large garden filled with flowers, and spent much of her time crocheting.

She resumed her love of education, working as a para-professional at Lester Prairie School for 20 years, retiring in June 2006.

Most of all, Carol enjoyed telling a good story, and spending time with her friends and family, especially her seven grandchildren.

Carol is survived by her children: Mary Anderson and her husband, David, of St. Louis Park, David Klaustermeier and his wife, Jen, of South St. Paul, and Amy Meyer and her husband, Stacy, of Lester Prairie; and grandchildren: Paige Anderson, Spencer Anderson, Graham Anderson, Kate Klaustermeier, Nick Klaustermeier, Liam Meyer, and Amelia Meyer;.

She is further survived by brothers and sisters: Robert Jessen and his wife, Carol, of Elgin, IL, Delwyn Jessen and his wife, Karen Osborn, of Colorado Springs, CO, Sandi Schmidt and her husband, Warren, of Altenburg, MO, and Tom Jessen and his wife, Deb, of Madelia, MN; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

In addition to her husband, Carl, Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Erna Jessen; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lorna Schmidt and her husband, Ortwin, and Walter Klaustermeier and his wife, Jean.
