Mary Ann Kubesh, age 96, of Olivia, formerly of Winsted, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018, at the Olivia Nursing Home.
She was born June 22, 1922, at Lake Lillian, to Albin and Blanche (Novotny) Mattson. Mary Ann was baptized shortly after birth, and confirmed in 1936 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Bird Island.
She attended school in Bird Island, and graduated from Bird Island High School in 1940.
Mary Ann married Milo F. Kubesh April 3, 1945, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. The couple lived in Winsted for 49 years, returning to Olivia following their retirement in 1998.
While living in Winsted, Mary Ann worked as an assistant cashier for 25 years at the former Citizens State Bank. She was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and St. John’s Lutheran Church and WELCA in Winsted.
Currently, Mary Ann was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and its WELCA in Bird Island.
She enjoyed crafts, embroidery, reading, puzzles, and fishing with her husband at their lake cabin. In later years Mary Ann enjoyed camping, traveling, and going on motor coach tours together.
Mary Ann is survived by her sister-in-law, Doris Mattson of Olivia; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Milo; her brother Leland Mattson; and her sister-in-law Irene Ziesmer.
Funeral services took place Thursday, Sept. 6 at 11 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Bird Island, with the Rev. Kelly France officiating. Interment was at the Bird Island City Cemetery.
There was visitation at the church one hour prior to the funeral.
