Aurelia Emma Ida (Lampher) Strei, age 91, of Lester Prairie, passed away Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018, at Glen Fields Living with Care in Glencoe.
She was born May 17, 1927, in McLeod County, the daughter of Edwin and Lillian (Breyer) Lampher. Aurelia was baptized as an infant June 5, 1927, by Pastor J. A. Schert at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, and was confirmed in her faith as a youth April 6, 1941, by Pastor E. H. Stahlke at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.
Aurelia received her education in Lester Prairie, graduating with the Lester Prairie High School class of 1946.
She was united in marriage to John Strei Sept. 9, 1946, by Pastor R. A. Ritz at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. Aurelia and John made their home in Lester Prairie, and their marriage was blessed with four children, Gary, Susan, Gordon and Shirley.
Aurelia and John shared over 62 years of marriage until John passed away Dec. 16, 2008.
In addition to being a loving wife, mother, and homemaker, Aurelia worked as a nursing assistant at the Alice Haney Nursing Home in Lester Prairie, retiring in 1989.
She was a faithful member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.
Aurelia enjoyed embroidery, playing cards, flowers, polka music, and fishing. She treasured the time spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends.
Aurelia is survived by her children, Gary Strei and his wife, Linda, of Wayzata, Susan Thiel and her husband, Jim, of Bloomington, and Shirley Antonson and her husband, Skip, of Lester Prairie; grandchildren David Strei and his wife, Melanie, of Plymouth, Katie Smith and her husband, Dan, of Eden Prairie, Kim Behning and her husband, Carl, of Minnetonka, Kris Fisch and her husband, Jeff, of Prior Lake, Heather Norwood and her husband, John, of Monticello, Nick Strei and his wife, Jamie, of Hutchinson, Tom Strei and his wife, Kayla, of Champlin, Melissa Becker and her husband, Luke, of Mankato, and Megan Antonson of St. Cloud; 12 great-grandchildren; nephews, nieces, other relatives, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Lillian Lampher; husband, John Strei; and son, Gordon Strei.
A private family funeral service took place Monday, Dec. 10 at 11 a.m. at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie, followed by interment fat the church cemetery.
The Rev. Eric Nelson officiated at the service. Special music was “What A Friend We Have In Jesus,” and “Abide With Me.”
Arrangements were with the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel of Lester Prairie.
