Olvern R. Vinkemeier, age 92, of Mayer, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018, at the Auburn Home in Waconia.
Her funeral service will be Saturday, Sept. 22 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church (121 Bluejay Ave. N.) in Mayer, with the Rev. Adam Gless officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
There will be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
Olvern’s grandchildren will be her casket bearers.

Olvern was born June 6, 1926, in Minneapolis, the daughter of William and Olga (Hasse) Ehmke. She was baptized July 4, 1926, at her parents’ home by the Rev. Erthal, and confirmed March 17, 1940, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer by the Rev. Schwandt.
Olvern went to Zion Lutheran Grade School, and graduated from Watertown High School June 1, 1945, as class valedictorian.
She was united in marriage to Raymond Vinkemeier April 20, 1947, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer by the Rev. Schwandt.
Olvern was a member of several organizations, which included: 20 years as a 4-H leader; 50 years in the homemakers club; five years teaching Sunday school at Zion; and she served with the Zion Ladies Aid (LWML) for several years.
She loved gardening, baking, cooking, and tending to her flowers. Olvern made many wedding cakes for several weddings around the area. She also had a keen interest in the genealogy of her family.
Olvern was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; parents William and Olga Ehmke; great-grandson Wyatt Coy; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Elvin (Violet) Vinkemeier, Selma (Melvin) Zabel, William Schwirtz, William Vinkemeier, and Ervin Arndt.
She is survived by her loving family: children Louise (Ron) Blauert of Watertown, John (Chery) Vinkemeier, Joel (Barb) Vinkemeier, and Daniel (Brenda) Vinkemeier, all of Mayer; grandchildren Michelle (Matt) Coy, Marc (Bonnie) Vinkemeier, William (Ellen) Blauert, Patrick (Brandy) Blauert, Scott (Alysia) Vinkemeier, Jennifer (Barry) VanDuyn, Michael (Angela) Vinkemeier, Stacy (Benjamin) Fenton; and great-grandchildren Emily Vinkemeier, Jon Vinkemeier, Morgan Coy, Kaylee Blauert, Cassidy Blauert, Bryton Blauert, Brooke Vinkemeier, Breanna Vinkemeier, Braydon Vinkemeier, Sylvie VanDuyn, and Margaret Vinkemeier.
Olvern is further survived by sisters-in-law Lorna Schwirtz, Paula Arndt, both of Norwood Young America, and Eunice Vinkemeier of Chaska; godchildren Deborah Johnson, Lois Levinski, and Becky Schiroo; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
