Howard Walter Vollrath, age 88, of Silver Lake, formerly of Winsted, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2018, at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
He was born March 22, 1930, in New Germany, the son of Adolph and Johanna (Speigner) Vollrath.
Howard honorably served his country in the United States Air Force, and belonged to Winsted American Legion Post 407 for 60 years.
Howard was joined in holy marriage with Nora M. Schultz June 6, 1992.
Howard formerly worked as a painter at Millerbernd Manufacturing for 34 years.
He liked old time music, and enjoyed ham dinners, peaches, cottage cheese, and chocolate dessert.
Howard is survived by his loving wife, Nora; step children Connie Schultz (fiancé Brad Paulson), and John (Sheryl) Schultz; a grandson, Kyle Schultz, all of Silver Lake; brothers Norman (Annette) Vollrath of International Falls, and Ed Vollrath of Coon Rapids; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; and four brothers.
A memorial service took place Saturday, Dec. 29 at 4 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with Pastor Dave Hormann officiating. Interment with military rites will occur in the spring.
There was visitation Saturday at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
