Dorothy Wuetherich, 87

Dorothy D. (Ristow) Wuetherich, age 87, of Lester Prairie, passed away Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018, at her home in Lester Prairie.

She was born May 12, 1931, in Saint Paul, the daughter of Ruth Ristow. Dorothy’s mother passed away when she was 3 years old, and she was raised by her grandparents, Max and Augusta Ristow.

Dorothy was confirmed March 25, 1945, at the Evangelical Church of Lester Prairie. She attended the local country school outside of Lester Prairie through the eighth grade.

Dorothy and Fred Wuetherich were joined in holy marriage Dec. 17, 1949, at the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Lester Prairie. Their marriage was blessed with the birth of four children. Dorothy and Fred celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in December 1999.

Dorothy spent 46 years on the farm in Lester Prairie. In 2006, she moved to a townhome within the city limits of Lester Prairie.

A fixture at the local grocery store, each time the store changed ownership, Dorothy stayed on. She worked at the store approximately 40 years.

Dorothy was selected as honorary senior citizen for Prairie Days in 2017, her first time riding in a parade.

Antiquing, flowers, and feeding the birds in her back yard were some things Dorothy enjoyed. She was quite a collector of swans, pitchers, bird figurines, and whatever else struck her fancy. She also collected friends – she was a friend to people of all ages, always giving words of wisdom.

Dorothy was a faithful member of the Prairie Community Church, UCC in Lester Prairie.

She is survived by her children: Debra Kirby of Eden Prairie, and Kerry (Debbie) Wuetherich of Gaylord; daughter-in-law Holly Wuetherich of Paradise, UT; grandchildren Charity (Justin) Horstman, Chelsey (special friend, Brad), and Sherry Wuetherich; Abby (Ryan) Forbes, Colton and Isabel Wuetherich; Taylor (Kyle) Cliche, and Morgan Wuetherich; great-grandchildren: Mason, Gage, Mara, Brett, Oakley, Avery, Everly and Hudson; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Ristow; her husband, Fred Wuetherich; sons Guy Wuetherich and Brian Wuetherich; granddaughter Charlene Wuetherich; grandparents Max and Augusta Ristow; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Harold and Gladys Wuetherich; Alvina and Helmuth Fenske; Melvin and Dorothy Kroells; Fritz and Stella Templin, and Marvin and Lydia Kruschke.

Funeral services took place Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 10 a.m, with the Rev. Al Fiene officiating. Interment followed at the Lester Prairie City Cemetery.

There was visitation Monday, Sept. 24 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the church.
