Stephen J. Bauman, 81

Stephen James Bauman, age 81, of Delano, went to live in the presence of our Heavenly Father Monday, May 6, 2019.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday, May 17 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Delano.

There was a gathering of family and friends Thursday, May 16 from 4 to 8 p.m., in Martha’s Hall of St. Peter Catholic Church, with a 3:30 p.m. rosary service; continuing Friday from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the Mass.

Arrangements are with the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.

Stephen was born Jan. 12, 1938, to Herbert and Catherine (Muckenhirn) Bauman, the 10th of 12 children in the family. He grew up on the family farm west of Delano.

Steve was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, attended their parochial school, and graduated from Delano High School.

He married Darlene Host May 24, 1965, in Long Prairie.

Steve worked at Clover Leaf (later Kemps) creamery for 35 years.

With his wife, he raised a family, worked a hobby farm, operated a tree business, and enjoyed dancing, chasing bluegill, hunting, non-traditional repairs around the homestead, volunteering at church, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Catherine Bauman; his brothers, Joseph, John, and Clarence Bauman; his sisters, Catherine Bauman, Rita Schmitz, and Dorothy Jean Griep; his brothers-in-law Dan Bauer, Peter Schmitz, William Metz, Jack Gillis, and Clarence Stein; and his sisters-in-law Marcella Bauman, Patricia Bauman, and Jean Bauman.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene; children, Kyle Bauman, Kendra (Dave) Leibel, Shantel (Robert) Zimmerman, and Darys (Paula) Bauman; and eight grandchildren: Anneliese Bauman, Maria, Kayla and Anna Leibel; Levi and Lauren Zimmerman; and Evan and Wyatt Bauman.

Steve is further survived by brothers Lawrence (Annie), Robert (Helen), and Anthony; sisters Caroline Metz, and Rosemary Gillis; in-laws Jerry Griep, Judy Stein, and Allan (Mariann) Host; as well as many, many nieces and nephews.
