James A. Hertel, age 71, of Winsted passed away suddenly Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday, Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father Tony Stubeda will be the Celebrant. Military rites will also be performed.
A visitation will take place Sunday, Jan. 27 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. A prayer service will take place at 5:30 p.m.
Further visitation will take place Monday morning, Jan. 28, one hour prior to Mass at the church.
Interment will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Jim was born Oct. 24, 1947 in Winsted, the son of Leo and Genevieve (Miller) Hertel.
Jim graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1965. He later attended St. John’s University and Mankato State University, graduating in 1969.
Jim and Kathleen A. Campbell were joined in holy marriage Nov. 23, 1968 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. God blessed their marriage with six children.
Jim honorably served his country in The United States Marine Corps.
He was employed at Millerbernd Manufacturing for more than 40 years.
Jim loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a proud father, grandpa, and great-grandpa.
Jim and Kathy enjoyed traveling after his retirement. He loved fishing and hunting, the Minnesota Vikings and Golden Gopher basketball.
Jim was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years: Kathy Hertel; children: Gloria Hertel (Tom Stifter), Matt Hertel, Mary Harrison (John Hertzog), Jake (Angie) Hertel, Maggie (John) Montgomery, Grace (Ross) Brennan; grandchildren: Faye (Adam) Field, Joe Telecky, Genevieve Dvorak, Cedar Hertel, Dena (Tyler) Hausladen, Deirdre (Spencer) Caouette, Darla Harrison, Dexter Harrison, Donovan Harrison, Lucy Hertel, Leo Hertel, Henry Hertel, Kathleen Montgomery, Elizabeth Montgomery, Clark Montgomery, Baby Boy Brennan expected in May; great-grandchildren: Kylian Field, Baby Boy Caouette expected in March, Baby Girl Hausladen expected in April. Jim is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Paul and Jack Hertel, and son-in-law Dexter Harrison.
