Kate E. Koljonen, 37

Kate Esther Koljonen, age 37, of Minnetrista, passed away peacefully Friday, June 7, 2019, at her home, surrounded by her loved ones, after a long battle with cancer.

She was born Jan. 17, 1982, in Vancouver, WA.

Kate was known and loved for her caretaking and outgoing nature. She opened her doors and arms to her Christian companions, family, and neighbors; and established lifelong bonds with those she knew throughout her life.

A lifelong member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church, Kate set a beautiful example through her simple believing to the end of her days. She was a help to so many with her gift to freely open her heart and talk of her thoughts.

Kate cherished her family and friends, and her greatest wish and heart’s desire was that they would hold fast to the living Christianity so they too could gain that great victory.

Kate is survived by her beloved husband, Esko Koljonen; her six children: Drew, Dean, Lewis, Hugh, Genevieve and Cecilia; parents, Dan and Ruth Charlson; three brothers, Eric with Melissa, Mark with Jeana, and Peter; five sisters: Sarah with John Cichosz; Rebecca with Shawn Kysar; Kristine with Jason Hiivala; Laura with Tyrell Johnson; and Mary with Luke Williamson; and mother–in-law Sanna Koljonen; along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father–in-law, Phillip Koljonen.

Funeral services took place Thursday, June 13 at 11 a.m. at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church in rural Delano. There was visitation Wednesday, June 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Arrangements were with the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
