Mark G. Kurtzweg, 53

Mark Glen Kurtzweg, age 53, of Lake Stella, passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, in Upper Peninsula, MI.

He was born July 31, 1965, in Glencoe, the son of Virg and Marlys (Schatz) Kurtzweg. Mark was baptized as an infant and confirmed in his faith as a youth, both at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.

He received his education in Hutchinson, and was a graduate of the Hutchinson High School class of 1983. Mark continued his education at Saint Cloud State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in industrial manufacturing. He also attended the University of Saint Thomas for business administration.

Mark was united in marriage to Ronda Hartsuiker Sept. 30, 1989, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. This marriage was blessed with two children, Mitchell and Jake.

Mark and Ronda resided at Lake Stella, and shared 30 years of marriage.

Mark was a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church of Dassel.

He was employed at DS Smith Worldwide Dispensers for 22 years, with his last assignment as general manager for North American operations.

Mark was a member of the Society of Plastics Engineers, Ducks Unlimited, and Lake Stella Association.

A man who was full of life, Mark lived it to the fullest. He enjoyed hunting with his boys, brother, father, many friends, and his beloved dogs, Sadie and Lacy. He loved fishing with family and friends, sunset cruises on the lake with his wife, snowmobile trips with the guys, motorcycle trips with his brother, and all those that meant the world to him.

He also enjoyed traveling with his family and going to the cabin in Effie, MN.

Mark was a great cook, with double top secret recipes, and had a passion for hosting and keeping friends and family together at the lake. Those who knew Mark best knew they could call him anytime for advice and help; he was his family’s rock.

Mark was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, who will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Ronda Kurtzweg, of Lake Stella; sons Mitchell Kurtzweg, and Jake Kurtzweg, both of Lake Stella; brothers Kurt Kurtzweg, Kurt’s wife, Connie, and daughter, Kayla, of Hutchinson; and Scott Kurtzweg, Scott’s wife, Ginny, and daughters, Sydney, Hattie and Joce, of Bemidji; parents, Virg and Marlys Kurtzweg of Lake Stella; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ralph and Louise Hartsuiker of Hutchinson; brothers-in-law Harold Hartsuiker and his wife, Michon, of Golden Valley, Arvid Harstuiker and his wife, Sheila, of Stone Lake, WI; and many dear aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harvey and Elmira Kurtzweg, and Elmer and Alvina Schatz.

Funeral services took place Friday, Jan. 25 at 10 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, with interment in Oakland Cemetery. The Rev. Kevin Oster officiated, and Shirlee Landskroener was the organist. Congregational hymns were “Just As I Am,” “Beautiful Savior,” “On Eagle’s Wings,” and “How Great Thou Art.”

Casket bearers were Dan Neubarth, Darrin Neubarth, Joel Froemming, Tony Tydlacka, Greg Tiemens, and Eric Gehrke.
