Linus Frederick Schmidt, age 82, of Watertown, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, at his residence.
A memorial service will take place Saturday, Feb. 2 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 3030 Navajo Avenue, rural Watertown, with a reception to follow the service at the Watertown Community Center.
There will be a gathering of family and friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia.
Linus was born Feb. 25, 1936, in Young America, the son of Frederick and Lenora (Roepke) Schmidt. He was baptized March 15, 1936, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America; and confirmed his faith April 2, 1950, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Watertown.
Linus was a graduate of the Mound High School.
After high school, he served his country in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960, followed by the Army reserves until 1964.
Linus was united in marriage with Beverly Felt June 8, 1958. This union of 60 years was blessed with daughters Michelle and Melanie.
Linus was employed for over 40 years at Timesavers Inc.
He enjoyed playing baseball and softball, fishing, hunting, and gardening. Linus loved a good game of cards, especially Sheephead.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Lenora Schmidt; son-in-law Danny Freeborn; sister JoAnn Eder; brother Orlyn “Buddy” Schmidt and his wife Ann; nephews Mike Schmidt, and Brian Sheffield; father-in-law and mother-in-law Clarence and Pearl Felt; and brother-in-law Gary Felt.
Linus is survived by his loving family: wife Beverly Schmidt of Watertown; daughters Michelle Freeborn of Rockford, and Melanie Schmidt and her fiancé Tony Hernandez of Chaska; grandchildren Aaron Frach and his wife, Jessica, Heather Hartman and her husband, Benjamin, and Adin Benjamin; great-grandchildren Cooper Frach and Stella Frach; a sister, Joyce Sheffield of Wyoming; a brother, Ronald Schmidt and his wife, Joyce of Maple Plain; brother-in-law Donald Eder of Waconia; special friends Scott Richter (Marie), and Michael Frach; other relatives, and many friends.
