Ronald Ralph Stahlke, age 81, of New Germany, died Tuesday March 5, 2019, at the Waconia Good Samaritan Center.
He was born Oct. 18, 1937, in Waconia Township of Carver County, the son of Ralph H. and Lorna (Krause) Stahlke. Ronald was baptized as an infant at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia.
He attended St. Mark Lutheran School in New Germany, and confirmed his faith at St. Mark Lutheran Church. His confirmation verse was Colossians 3:17 “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
Ronald graduated from Central High School in Norwood in 1955, and that fall, he enlisted in the United States Navy, Sept. 20, 1955, where he served until he received his honorable discharge July 24, 1958. While in service during the Cuban Missile Crisis, Ronald was stationed on the USS Valley Forge aircraft carrier.
Ronald was united in marriage with Connie Zellmann Sept. 22, 1962, at St. Mark Lutheran Parsonage in New Germany by Rev. Weseloh. This union of 56 years was blessed with four children.
Ronald attended the Minnesota School of Business, and earned an accounting degree in 1960. He had worked for National Food Stores in Hopkins, prior to entering into a partnership with his father in the New Germany grocery business in 1970. Ronald became the sole owner in 1972, and operated the business until its sale in 1979. He then worked in grocery stores in Monticello and Lester Prairie, and later for Schwans and Tinos Pizza.
Ronald stayed very active in the New Germany community while operating, and after selling his business. He served on the New Germany Fire Department for 16 years, as a member of the Commercial Club for 15 years, and as the New Germany city treasurer for 16 years.
Ronald enjoyed sports, and was both the scorekeeper and first-base coach for the New Germany Dutchmen for many years.
A faithful member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Ronald had served as the mission treasurer, salary treasurer, financial secretary, school board member, and as a Lutheran High School delegate.
He enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing cards, and reading the daily newspaper. Ronald cherished the opportunity to attend his children’s and grandchildren’s activities.
He will be remembered for his joking, dry sense of humor, and as a man who was very loving and supportive of everyone.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Lorna Stahlke; grandchildren Tara Stahlke and Everett Stahlke; and sister LaJean Stahlke.
He is survived by his loving family: wife Connie Stahlke of New Germany; sons and daughters-in-law Ricky and Rochelle Stahlke of Waconia, and Gary and Cathy Stahlke of Norwood Young America; daughters and son-in-law Kristi and Andrew Larsen of Waconia, and Cammi Stahlke of Plymouth; grandchildren Ryan Stahlke and his wife, Amber; Reed Stahlke, Sarah Stahlke, Olivia Stahlke, Claudia Stahlke, Weston Stahlke, and Brenna Larsen and her fiancée, Cody Albrecht; and great-grandchildren Paige, Braylin and Nico.
Ronald is further survived by a sister, Lynda Stahlke of Mound; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Marlo and Linda Zellmann of Norwood Young America; nieces and nephews Joy and Andy Cook, Clint Zellmann, Grace and Steve Marsden; other relatives; and many friends.
His funeral service took place Saturday, March 9 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany with the Rev. LeRoy LaPlant as officiant. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
There was visitation Saturday at the church, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
Ronald’s grandchildren served as casket bearers.
