Marion M. Venske, 88

Marion May Venske, age 88, of Watertown, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2019, surrounded by her family.

She was born May 23, 1931, in Hollywood Township, the daughter of Carl and Annie (Gloege) Richter. Marion was baptized Aug. 2, 1931, at Zion Evangelical Church in Mayer by Rev. Bauer; and confirmed in the faith April 24, 1944, at the same church by the Rev. William Buller.

Marion attended grade school in a one-room school- house in Hollywood Township. After grade school, she attended District 55 for high school.

Marion was united in marriage to Gordon J. Venske June 18, 1950, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown by Rev. Anderson.

Marion started cleaning for Dr. Bratholdt in Watertown in her younger years. She provided daycare for other children in Watertown at her home. She also worked at the canning factory in Watertown.

As an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown, Marion was a circle leader for the LCW, and a member of the church choir for 35 years, and also the senior choir, for a total of 50 years singing. She also served on the altar guild, quilters, taught Sunday school and Bible school, volunteered at the church as church secretary, and was Lucia queen for one year. She had a strong faith in the Lord.

Marion was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon; parents Carl and Annie Richter; sisters Gladys Draeger, and Helen Dean; and brother Clyde Richter.

She is survived by her loving family: children Sandra Stephenson of Buffalo, Susan (Michael) Dertinger of Waconia, and Steven (Bernadine) Venske of Watertown; grandchildren Amy (Jason) Felix, Sean Stephenson, Rachel Stephenson, Michael Venske, Daniel Venske and Cassandra Gilles and her children, Campbell and Eli; Johanna Dertinger and fiancé Chris McGlauchlen, and Joseph Dertinger; great-grandchildren Sadie, Harper, Kaia and Jack; sister and brother-in-law Joyce and John Lund of Lino Lakes; aunt Edna Ernst of Waconia; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service took place Saturday, June 22 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown, with the Rev. Jeffrey Engholm officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

There was visitation at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Casket bearers were Michael Venske, Daniel Venske, Rachel Stephenson, Johanna Dertinger, Joseph Dertinger, and Steven Ostlie.
